James City County Board of Supervisors Votes to Approve Racefield Solar Farm

“The James City County (JCC) Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve a new solar farm on Racefield Drive during the Tuesday, March 8 meeting.

Brendan Grajewski of Hexagon Energy, LLC, applied for a SUP for a three-megawatt (MW) solar farm located at 360 Racefield Dr.

The solar farm will be developed on 26 acres of the total 65.26 acres and would connect to the existing utility line using an on-site, pad-mounted switchgear, according to the project’s staff report.


In 5-0 votes, the Board approved both the solar farm and the withdrawal request.


Grajewski said that the first quarter of 2023 is the estimated time when construction would begin, with facility operations expected to occur in spring 2023.”

Hexagon Energy Proposes new solar farm in the Town of Veteran, NY

Hexagon Energy LLC. of Charlottesville, Virginia submitted plans for Hunt Engineers to build the solar array on a former airstrip near Old Sullivanville Road (CR 15A) in Veteran.

The arraignment would consist of >9,200 10 ft high panels, ground-mounted racking, solar modules, access roads, electrical equipment, interconnect, fencing, and screening.

Hexagon's Steward Creek Solar Approved by Lee County, Illinois

Lee County, Illinois has approved awarding Steward Creek Solar LLC, of Virginia-based Hexagon Energy, with a special-use permit to build a 600-megawatt solar farm across Alto and Willow Creek Townships near Steward bordering Ogle and DeKalb counties as well as Interstate 39 and Highway 30. The project is estimated to bring in around $80 million in property tax revenue across the 35-year life of the development. Construction on the project is slated to begin in fall 2022 and become operational in 2024, generating enough energy to power 116,300 homes a year.
